Naismith Hall is a fully air-conditioned, co-ed residence hall adjacent to the south edge of the University of Kansas campus.
We offer many unique advantages for today's college students. In addition to its prime location, Naismith Hall has spacious rooms with adjoining semi-private bathrooms and a vanity/sink in all residents' rooms. Basic Cable TV and internet are provided at no additional cost.
Great amenities also include a state-of-the-art fire suppression (sprinkler) system protecting the entire building, the main reception desk being open 24/7, and a large, outdoor swimming pool.
Naismith Hall provides all residents with direct high-speed hard wired Internet service in every room.
Naismith Hall has a prime location on Naismith Drive between West 18th and West 19th Streets on the south edge of the University of Kansas campus within a block of Allen Fieldhouse, Hoglund Baseball Stadium, The Student Recreation and Fitness Center. Classrooms and campus facilities are just a short walk or bus ride away. The center of campus and other University facilities, as well as local restaurants and stores are only a short walk away. Yes. Naismith Hall is equipped with a wet fire suppression system throughout the building. There are sprinkler heads in all the residents' rooms and public areas. Back to top
No. At Naismith Hall, we are happy to pair you up with a roommate. We have years of experience setting roommate matches. If you want to request a specific roommate you can request one. Naismith Hall will only honor mutual roommate and/or suitemate requests. The other person(s) with whom you would like to live must also request you as a roommate or suitemate on his or her Addendum. Room assignments are made on a first-come-first-served basis. The sooner you get your Addendum submitted, the more likely you are to get your room type and/or desired room.
No. There is, however, a $50 non-refundable application fee at the time the Addendum is signed.
Article C.2. of the Room and Board Agreement outlines the circumstances and provisions under which residents may cancel their contract. Some circumstances do not require any penalty and some have financial penalties. It is very important that you read these provisions carefully so that there are no misunderstandings later.
The Naismith Hall Food Service provides residents with some of the finest food on campus. We serve three meals per day Monday through Friday and brunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday. Meal service begins on the first day of classes and ends on the last day of final examinations in each semester. Food service is closed during University holidays. Our food service program consists of two popular board plans:
The All Meals Served Plan allows a resident to enter the Rock Chalk Cafe one time at each meal offered. Meals served are breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday. A brunch and dinner are served Saturday and Sunday.
The Any Two Meals Served per Day Plan allows a resident to enter the Rock Chalk Cafe twice a day (i.e., breakfast and lunch, lunch and dinner, or breakfast and dinner).
All meals are served in our spacious Rock Chalk Cafe dining room located on the first floor. Please see the My Naismith section for the weekly menu and dining hall hours.
Simply put, Naismith Hall does not allow smoking, alcohol, or illegal drugs anywhere in the building.
A number of our residents have allergies to smoke and their needs must be accommodated, so smoking is not allowed anywhere in Naismith Hall. Smoking has been determined to be a health hazard as smoking-related illnesses endanger smokers directly and non-smokers indirectly.
Because a large number of our residents are under the age of 21, we have adopted the policy that no alcoholic beverages are permitted anywhere within Naismith Hall, regardless of age.
Yes. Naismith Hall has a limited number of parking spaces available for residents. Residents may sign up for spaces when completing the Room and Board Addendum. Spaces will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Naismith Hall is so close to campus, you really do not need to bring a car. Popular bus lines serving the campus and community stop next to Naismith Hall.
Yes. The Naismith Hall housekeeping staff will clean your room and bathroom regularly. The housekeepers will set up schedules for cleaning residents' rooms after move in. Housekeepers do not pick up or move residents' personal items while cleaning.
Yes. For an extra fee, you can request a compact All-In-One Refrigerator-Freezer/Microwave unit, which has a separate 2.9 cu. Ft. refrigerator, 0.75 cu. Ft. freezer, and a 600 watt, 0.6 cu. Ft. microwave oven with touch pad controls. These units are specifically designed to efficiently fit in our rooms and are shared by the residents in the room. When completing your Room and Board Addendum, mark the X in the box for a MicroFridge.
Naismith Hall does not allow waterbeds or other liquid-filled furniture because of the excessive weight and potential for leakage. Naismith Hall has a limited number of bunk beds or "lofts". If you want one, let us know.
Combustible materials (including but not limited to: posters, curtains, paneling, etc.) may not surround or be attached to the loft. Fire resistant material that is approved by an independent testing company may be allowed.
Only listed low voltage or fluorescent lighting fixtures installed to prevent contact with bedding may be attached to a loft, as approved by the code official. Halogen fixtures of any type are not approved.
Lofts and other furniture in the room must not obstruct access to or operation of windows and doors. Doors must be able to fully open. A minimum of thirty (30) inches of clear space must be maintained in front of required egress windows.
Yes! Naismith Hall provides the basic cable television service to over 50 channels in all residents' rooms, or you can sign up for a premium room where a TV is included.
Laundry facilities are available for residents' use 24 hours a day on the first floor. Residents are provided a special Laundry Card when they move in to use the washers and dryers. Residents add "credits" to their Laundry Card as needed by going to the Laundry ATM in the Laundry Room. Directions on how to use the Laundry Cards and machines are posted in each Laundry Room.
Yes. Every room in Naismith Hall has an Ethernet jack for residents to use to connect their personal computers to the Internet. This is the primary, fastest connection. Residents may also access the Internet with their laptops and a wireless card from just about anywhere in the building via our secondary method, a virtual private network (VPN).
